Sunday, on February 4, 2018, the famous actor John Mahoney died in a Chicago hospice care at the age of 77. According to Mahoney’s friend Anna D. Shapiro, the artistic director of Steppenwolf Theatre, John Mahoney has been weak in the past few months. Although she mentioned that Mahoney is already cleared of stage 3 cancer ever since the making “The Rembrandt,” he was still too weak to handle its complications. Mahoney was a private person who would not complain even if he were suffering a lot.
John Mahoney is always remembered as an actor. Among his other notable films are “Say Anything,” “Moonstruck,” and “The American President.” His most notable television show is Frasier.
He will always be remembered for his role as Martin Crane, the beloved father of Dr. Frasier Crane in the Sitcom. He won several awards including two Emmy awards for his role in Frasier and a Tony Award for The House of Blue Leaves.
Kelsey Grammer, the actor who played the role Dr. Frasier Crane stated that he will always remember Mahoney as a beloved father. He even posted a photo of him and Mahoney embracing each other on Twitter.
Mahoney’s other co-stars on Frasier paid their tributes. Jane Leeves, who played as Daphne Moon, said that Mahoney is the sweetest person that she has ever known. Peri Gilpin, who portrayed the role of Roz Doyle in Frasier, shared a photo of Mahoney on Twitter.
On the photo, Mahoney was singing on Gilpin’s wedding. She advised people to watch his movies to remember him always.
John Cusack, who worked with Mahoney in the film “Eight Men Out” and “Say Anything” also paid his tribute. He said that he was blessed to know this person. Mahoney was a kind of person who could make everyone around him happier and better.
