In Ohio, a teen girl named Kelsey recently turned 13 years old. She celebrated her birthday last January and her only wish was to get her long, dark brown hair, highlighted. Christin Johnson, Kelsey’s mother, agreed to her teeny and innocent birthday wish and brought Kelsey to the salon. The two had a mother-daughter bonding and pampering at the salon.
Kelsey couldn’t get more thrilled with her fresh blonde highlights! Her new look really boost her confidence as she happily took a snap of her post-makeover face. She was smiling on her camera and proudly posted it on Facebook.
Before the day ended, Christin, a working mother, dropped Kelsey off to her dad and stepmom. Kelsey was to spend some days with them.
When Kelsey returned, Christin was horrified of her daughter’s new look. Kelsey looked harshly different from that day her mother dropped her off. Aghast, Christin posted new set of photos of her daughter’s appearance, but this time, it caused outrage from across country.
Kelsey was embarrassed to show her face on the new images. Instead of a fresh long blond hair, she has now short pixie cut with sides shaved unevenly.
Christin shared two sets of photos on Facebook, one with Kelsey smiling on camera after getting highlights and another showing Kelsey upset and demeaned. All because of her daughter’s birthday.
Kelsey’s dad and stepmom chopped off her hair as a consequence for getting highlights. Now, they faced their own consequences. The couple were suspended on their work as firefighters and both are on administrative leave.
Wood County Job and Family Services began an investigation for Kelly’s traumatic forced haircut.
Desperate to make her daughter feel better, Christin brought Kelsey to Lady Jane’s Salon. The staff allowed Kelsey to choose wig that would fit her. Christin was very grateful to the staff ladies as they were able to make Kelsey smile again.
